La guerre est imminente. Lorsque le père de Peter s'engage dans l'armée, il oblige son fils à abandonner Pax, le renard qu'il a élevé depuis le plus jeune âge et envoie le garçon vivre chez son grand-père à cinq cent kilomètres de là. Mais Peter s'enfuit à la recherche de son renard.
Pendant ce temps, Pax affronte seul les dangers d'une nature sauvage et se trouve confronté à ceux de son espèce.

War is imminent. When Peter's father enlists in the army, he makes his son abandon Pax, the fox he raised, and sends him to live with his grandfather 500 kilometers away. But Peter runs away in search of his fox.
In the meantime, Pax is facing the dangerous of the wilderness alone and finds himself under attack by his own species.
This story is told through a superbly crystalline and raw author's voice and magnificently illustrated by Jon Klassen.
